What is Mission Career?

Mission Career is much more than just a personality test!

A scientifically based digital coaching and mentoring tool
Mission Career is available digitally, is user-friendly and appealing to use. Mission Career was developed based on both scientific findings and years of practical experience. You can find out more about the theoretical and practical principles here.

A basis for discussion for professionals
Mission Career cannot and does not aim to replace professionals such as HR experts, coaches, vocational instructors, and career advisors. The sometimes surprising visual and vivid evaluation supports these professionals in personal discussions with their existing and potential employees, customers, and clients. The professional receives valuable input and still enjoys great freedom in shaping the dialogue. The focus on exclusively positive personality traits creates the conditions for an open and constructive discussion atmosphere.

A meaningful personality profile thanks to the Visual Implicit Profiler (VIP)®
How a person perceives – consciously and unconsciously – and assigns meaning to what they perceive has been shown to influence the way they behave. Thus, by measuring implicit visual perception and processing preferences, personal behaviour patterns and strengths can be identified.

The following sample item can be used as an example of how the VIP works.

The person performing the VIP is offered two options. They choose one of them based on their preferred perception system:

  • Detail-oriented and selective. At first glance, the viewer perceives black and blue angles.
  • Intuitive and integrating. At first glance, the viewer perceives a blue, partially transparent square.

The advantages of an implicit process are particularly impressive when one compares the amount of information processed consciously and unconsciously.

Hear30 Bits/sec.100.000 Bits/sec
See40 Bits/sec.10.000.000 Bits/sec.

The main advantages of the Visual Implicit Profiler (VIP)® are therefore its little use of language (simple graphic symbols instead of questions), its brevity (approx. 5 minutes) and the fact that the evaluation is not based on a person’s conscious self-image. However, it is precisely this latter fact that also makes subsequent coaching by a professional necessary.

Registration, but no additional certification required – comprehensive documentation
Mission Career is simple, mostly self-explanatory, and intuitive to use. Nevertheless, it is only accessible to professionals, who must identify themselves as such and register. Indeed, Mission Career requires users to have sufficient experience and expertise in HR, education, leadership, mentoring or coaching. After a careful review of the documents and instructions (approx. 1 hour), these persons do not need any additional certification to successfully use Mission Career.

Various valuable materials are available in the digital Mission Career Customer Centre. Among them are the theoretical and practical basics of Mission Career and the understanding of strengths of PSYfiers (more here). In the Customer Centre you will also find application notes and instructions as well as explanations of the contents of the evaluation.

Different profile modules allow for individual focal points in the discussion
The evaluation consists of different elements, the profile modules, which are formulated exclusively in a positive and constructive way. The professional decides whether and how to use them to set priorities in the discussion.

  • Strength profile
  • Perception and decision-making profile
  • Communication profile
  • Professional role profile
  • Use your strengths

You can discover the individual elements of the evaluation here in the Mission Career sample profile.

Versatile professional orientation, personal development, conflict prevention
Mission Career can be used in many ways. Depending on the time available for discussion, Mission Career is particularly suitable for one or more of the following focal points:

  • Career choice: Mission Career should be used at the beginning of a career choice. Recognising one’s own potential with the help of a professional, understanding which roles and which professional environment suit one better and which do not, as well as understanding different ways of perceiving and thinking are the first steps to success in a profession or studies.
  • Change of occupation: Nowadays, professional profiles change, sometimes at breakneck speed. Many people want or need to adapt to these changes. However, a person’s aptitude for certain job roles and a certain job environment remains stable over time. It is a very good starting point for tackling new professional challenges. It proves to be particularly helpful that Mission Career is not built on a self-image that has often been (too) strongly shaped by years of professional activity.
  • Coaching employees: You are only really good at a job when you can use your strengths. Thanks to Mission Career, potentials can be identified and developed in dialogue with employees. Of particular importance are the suggestions on professional roles and the work environment, which help to successfully shape career planning at the individual level. At the team level, the deployment and cooperation of team members can be optimised.
  • Job interviews: Mission Career alone does not suggest the clear assignation of a person to a specific job.  Mission Career is suitable as a positive and supportive conversation starter in qualitative interviews. Especially with individuals with a more introverted preference, the evaluation has often proven to be “ice-breaking”. In addition, applicants leave the interview with valuable input, regardless of whether they were hired or not.
  • Conflict prevention and discussion of conflicts: Used professionally, Mission Career helps to avoid and clear up misunderstandings. Understanding oneself and others better creates comprehension and acceptance. Especially in conflict prevention and the discussion of conflicts, Mission Career’s clear presentation of personal as well as communication preferences has proven very useful.
